2013 Band Camp Information

Hello Marching Pride!!

I hope your summer is going well.  I know mine has gone very fast indeed.  

There are some important reminders and information you will need prior to your arrival for band camp.   Included in this information are attachments which include: 1) a medical form  2) information about the drum/ front ensemble camp and  3) order form for shoes and gloves.  Please print out the medical form and shoe order form, complete them and bring them with you to check-in. Drum line/ Front ensemble: Please read the attached letter from the drum staff. BAND CAMP CHECK-IN
Drum line check-in is Friday, August 16, 2013 – 2:00-4:00 pm.  Check-in for the remainder of the musicians and auxiliary squads and managers is Sunday, August 18, 2013 – 12:00-4:00 pm.  Please arrange your arrival plans during these time periods!  Everyone should report to Swope Music Hall prior to going to your residence halls!   If there is a problem with your room assignment, I will contact you prior to your arrival for camp.  Please print out and complete the medical form attachment. Bring it with you when you check-in for camp.  Student leaders (CO, Drum majors, Band Staff, section captains and Sergeants) should plan to report to the band office on Saturday, August 17, 2013.  We will have a training session from 1:00-3:00 pm to prepare for camp and we will begin to make the final preparations for the band’s arrival on Sunday.  You MUST attend.  If you have a problem, please let me know immediately!

MATERIALS FEE
All members of the band should be prepared to pay the $20 “materials fee” when you check-in for camp.  When you pay your fee you will be given a Marching Band T-shirt.  This will become part of your uniform.  This fee will also help to provide the band picnic, the band banquet,  medical supplies and other necessary items, which will benefit you.  You may pay the fee with cash or by check.  (make checks payable to:  “SRU Marching Pride”)

SHOES/ GLOVES
All musicians will need to have a pair of black marching shoes.  (matte finish, not shiny)  Black tennis shoes or dress shoes are NOT acceptable. If you have these from high school that are still in good condition, you may use those. Brass and Woodwind players will need to purchase BLACK gloves as well.  If you need shoes or gloves, print out the attached order form, complete it, and bring it to the band room on Monday, August 19, 2013 at 4:00 pm.  Checks for shoes or gloves should be payable to “SRU Marching Pride”.  Full payment is expected when you place your order.

AUDITIONS
Trumpets, Trombones should be aware that you will play a short audition immediately following the group meeting Sunday evening.  You do not need to prepare anything.  You will receive a short “selection” at check-in. This is only to assign parts!  No one will be cut!   

BAND BUDDIES
If you are a returning member and you requested a band buddy, that information will be forthcoming in an electronic mailer.  Please watch your SRU email accounts for that information.  Freshmen and new members are automatically assigned a band buddy. Freshmen and new members will not receive the names of their band buddies.  Your band buddy is responsible for contacting you!  They will do so through your SRU email account.

GROUP MEETING
Everyone will report to Swope Recital Hall for our annual group meeting that will be held at 6:00 pm. on Sunday, August 18th following check-in.   You must attend this meeting!!
